EMC CORPORATION NAMES OUTCAST COMMUNICATIONS AS PUBLIC RELATIONS AGENCY OF RECORD
Award-Winning PR Agency Teams with EMC to Help Deliver Vision for Information Lifecycle Management
San Francisco – August 3, 2004 – OutCast Communications, a rising star on the technology PR agency scene since its founding in 1997, today announced that EMC Corporation, the world leader in information storage and management, has selected OutCast as the company’s public relations agency of record. OutCast will support EMC’s full array of public relations initiatives, including corporate programs, information storage systems, storage and content management software, and services. OutCast also will continue to support VMware, an OutCast client since 2002 and a subsidiary of EMC since January 2004, with a separate account team.
Mark Fredrickson, EMC’s vice president of corporate communications, said, “At EMC, public relations has long been a strategic and vital function that plays a central role in communicating with the world and building awareness of our market-leading products and services, customer successes and business achievements. Just as EMC has transformed in recent years from primarily a hardware company into the leading provider of information storage and management solutions – with more than half of our revenues now coming from software and services – our PR challenges and opportunities keep expanding. We are very enthused to begin a new chapter with OutCast as our partner.”
Michael Gallant, EMC’s director of public relations, said, “Our entire team was energized by this review process and impressed with the competence of all the participating agencies and individuals. The OutCast team stood out. Through their intelligence, determination, energy and creativity, OutCast Communications left us with no doubts.”
EMC is one of the world’s fastest-growing major IT providers, leading the worldwide market for information storage systems and software for the management and the protection of information. With recent acquisitions and its most aggressive new product delivery cycles ever, EMC has rapidly advanced its leadership in information lifecycle management (ILM), a strategy to help customers align their IT infrastructures with the changing value of information while optimizing server, network and storage resources. In concert with their core storage solutions, no company is better positioned to deliver upon the concept of cradle-to-grave data access and management than EMC.
Tim Smith, senior strategist at OutCast Communications, said, “Over the past year, EMC has made tremendous progress in delivering on its commitment to deliver true ILM. In addition to continued innovation in market-leading storage platforms, it has responded to customer demand by amassing a $1.5 billion comprehensive software business through acquisitions and its own development. EMC’s software business will be a key driver of EMC’s long-term success, and OutCast is thrilled to lend its enterprise software expertise to their efforts.”
Caryn Marooney, partner and co-founder of OutCast Communications, said, “We are judged by the company we keep, both in terms of our media relationships and our client roster. EMC is a world-class addition to that roster and a technology leader of the highest caliber. The entire OutCast team was impressed with the individuals at EMC, and we are extremely fortunate to be working with a group with such character, intelligence and vision. I couldn’t be prouder of the OutCasts who made this happen.”
San Francisco-based OutCast is well known for its award-winning work with ArcSight, AutoDesk, Dell Enterprise Products Group, Fortify, Good Technology, Grand Central, Mercury, Oblix, salesforce.com, TiVo, and VMware, among others. In connection with today’s announcement, OutCast announced that it will establish an East Coast office to more effectively meet the needs of EMC and other East Coast-based clients.
