About Us
The Tao of OutCast
Founded by Caryn Marooney and Margit Wennmachers in 1997, OutCast Communications has become one of the premier technology PR agencies in the United States. Our customized approach produces outstanding results and lifts our clients above the fray of what can be a chaotic and confusing industry.
Our success is built on four pillars:
Our people: The company we keep is extremely important at OutCast, and that begins with the people with whom we work most closely each and every day. Within our New York and San Francisco offices, OutCast provides an environment where talented, ambitious, interesting and (we think) humorous employees always deliver the best results. People who take pride in being called OutCasts are a rare commodity, and we are happy to have found so many of them.
Our relationships: OutCasts enjoy the craft of public relations. That means we form lasting relationships with the media and other industry influencers. Being an OutCast means recognizing what is needed from us, and how quickly we need to deliver it. It means asking smart questions and providing intelligent answers. Because every now and then we enjoy that moment when the planets align and our clients’ stories and the editors’ interests synch up. That’s the fun part.
-
Our clients: Client relationships are held in high regard at OutCast, which is why we enjoy some very long-term relationships. We work with some of the most innovative and successful entrepreneurs and companies in the field of technology whether they are coming up with the lateset alternative to gasoline or making the newest must-have gadget.
Our philosophy: You simply cannot separate PR strategy and execution. That’s like taking the Red Sox out of Fenway Park; like splitting up Laurel and Hardy. Yet the career trajectory at most agencies is that the more strategic you become, the less frequently you speak with the media. We see things differently. At OutCast, everyone pitches the press – partners, VPs, and directors. The person who devises your media strategy is the same one in constant contact with industry influencers.
This only begins to paint a picture of our approach to public relations. It doesn’t cover the fact that we believe that having a Type A personality is a good thing; that cover stories make excellent wall decorations, and that humor and success go hand in hand.
For that, you’ll just have to meet us.
